Ingrid Olsen Exhibition
Since posting a couple of time late last year, I've had trouble getting anything to post here - apologies to all for that - some kind of blogger glitch. The problem appears to have resolved itself *happy dance and fingers crossed!*
So a belated happy 2014 to everyone involved with the Arts on the West Tamar.........quite a lot has happened and I will try to add some of the important happenings as I hear about them. I'll be making some kind of entry once a week at least.......so send me anything at all (especially images) that would be of interest. (sue@orielstudio.com.au)
Sam Sampson has sent me a snippet about an upcoming exhibition at Moore's Hill Winery for the month of March........paintings by Ingrid Olsen. Hopefully I will have some images to post to whet your appetites for this exhibition.
Meanwhile here are a few pictures from Badger Head - one of the West Tamar's secret beauty spots and well worth a visit!

West Tamar Arts News - Wednesday 20th November 2013
Here are some images taken by Robyn of some of the work she saw exhibited in Sydney in Sculpture By The Sea at Bondi. A great use of some eclectic materials, I think! I particularly like the polished metal circle and the way it incorporates reflections in what must be a dynamic and ever-changing piece. It reminds me a bit of a large polished steel sculpture that you can actually walk under and into that I saw a few years back in Chicago - great for photography and full of visual conundrums!
The WTAG Committee has decided to extend the application time for the 2D grant worth $1000 - the new closing date will be Friday 28th February 2014.
This is a great opportunity for 2D artists to have work exhibited in Gallery Windsor, the West Tamar community exhibition space in the Windsor Community Precinct in Riverside. Please pass on the information to anyone who might be interested. I assume application forms can be accessed on the website, but I will get back to you with details on that.
ARTS@WORK brings out a fortnightly newsletter (arts-e-newsbyte), which details available grants, exhibitions and opportunities for artists - definitely worth a look and you can have it emailed to you each fortnight. You can also access all past newsletters via the ARTS@WORK website http://www.artsatwork.com.au
And finally, I should probably introduce myself! My name is Susie McMahon and I am a practising artist and long-time resident in the West Tamar. I generally work in mixed media sculpture, but I also paint, draw and work in fabric on occasion. At last Sunday's WTAG AGM, I opened my big mouth and said I'd be more than happy to help with the blog.....the words were no sooner out of my mouth than my offer was snapped up! I have been writing my own blog for quite a few years and I have found that blogging only works if you do it regularly and often. I'm planning to update this blog at least once a week, preferably more often. Blogs also work best when there is lots of visual interest, so please, if you have any good arts-related photos of interest to the West Tamar Arts Community, please forward them to me (sue@orielstudio.com.au) and I can post them here for you. I will be contacting everyone on the member list in coming days to gently hound you all for material. I'm also hoping that the people going on this weekend's art trip will take lots of good photos - please!
Here is a bit of what I've been up to recently. I'm working on small works to be exhibited in December in Salamanca's Long Gallery. Here's a sample from a series called "Sorrowful Songs".
Cheers until next time.......and send me your content!
Susie
